Tron: Legacy
Gary
As the comic implies, I went to go see the new Tron (I'm a Tron fan. I really the original and the Tron 2.0 video game). Also as the comic implies, there as a long line. I saw it in IMAX 3d. The 3d was both good and bad.

First off, the movie was good. I liked it, even with the draw backs I'm going to mention here, and I suggest people go see it, but definitely see the original first, this is a sequel., and if you haven't seen the original, you might end up a little lost, like somee people who saw it before my group were. So, on to the pluses. The story was enjoyable, and it fit into the universe and the first Tron really well. Another plus were attractive women in tight outfits (what can I say, it was a plus for me). There were also a bunch of enjoyable action scenes, several well done 3d scenes, and music by Daft Punk. Like I said, an enjoyable movie.

Now on to the critique, what they got wrong (in my opinion). First, I saw it in IMAX 3d, unfortunately, the IMAX screen curves and this seems to mess with the 3d (not the movie's fault), so I'd recommend seeing it in a standard screen. There were definitely somee scenes I'm glad I got to see in 3d, some that they did very well, but they also tended to do what I really don't like in 3d, which is blurring out sections. This is a technique that's been round in 2d movies for a long time. They want to add depth and focus you in on someething (like a person talking or not talking), they blur our everything but what you're supposed to be looking at. Unfortunately, for me, when this is done in 3d, I keep thinking I can pull it into focus and it ends up annoying me and pulling me out of the movie. I'm hoping that this is just one of the things that ends up being worked out over time, like the way acting in the early 30s->50s was stage acting even when in a movie. Now a days, acting is considerably better than it was back then, just evolution of the media. I hope the same happens with 3d. Other things that I thought were a little lacking was the tron world. I chalked it up to better cpus and gpus, but the world was less cartoony and more shiny/real. Unfortunately, I liked the older world, same as the world in Tron 2.0 (a video game). Also, they removed a lot of the lighting effects that were prevalent in the first movie, throwing almost everyone in black with a touch of color. I'm sure there are many out there who think this was better, but like I said, I was a Tron fan, and I liked how the first one did it. Also the evolution of Tron was a bit odd, but I accepted it. So yeah, those were my complaints, not enough to stop me from buying the movie when it comes out and watching the two together. I hope people get a chance to see and enjoy the new one, and I hope people go back and watch the first one and play the video game.

Until next time.... End of line.
