2013-08-10
Remove R Comic (aka rm -r comic), by Gary Marks: Aren't you glad they made Sharknado part 3 of 5
Dialog:
Shark-cano
There can be only one.

Panel 1
Caption: The inhabitants of a small tropical island thought they had it made, until, the ground started rumbling. They thought they knew what this meant, a volcano, but they were wrong, it was something much much worse. What they didn't know was that a deep underground passage connected their volcano with a the sea, and with it came...
Islander Arnold: Ahhhh! The lava, it bites! The goggles, they do NOTHING!
Islander Bill: They work for me.
Title: SHARK-CANO
Subtitle: Biting its way through a TV set near you.

Chicago Comic Con Day Two
Gary
Day two of my Chicago Comic Con adventure (first time with a booth) was a lot of fun, but it ended with painful polka.

So far, a good number of people have been by the booth, and have picked up postcards with the site on them. If you're one of those people, welcome, and thanks for stopping by my booth and checking out my site. The next few comics will be sketches like this one (Sharknado spoofs), since I'm at my booth, and trying to only work on the Halloween comics (aka comics not due for a while, in case I'm distracted and mess something up). Please bare with me. Next week (probably Wednesday and Friday), I'll throw together and post two comics, one explaining the site, and one explaining the characters that I sometimes have story arcs with. If you can't wait, please feel free to email me any questions (clicking on my name should do that for you) or stop by the booth again.

That said, if you want to see how I draw the comics, stop on by the booth. I'll be working on drawing the Halloween arc for this year. Tomorrow (Saturday), I'll probably go to a panel at 11am to 11:45am, noon to 12:45, and maybe one at 5:30 to 6:15. I'll also probably try to find a little time to wander the artist alley and see other people's stuff. The rest of the time, I'll be at my booth, come say hi. When I'm not at the booth, someone else will be there watching it, in case you want to buy a print, or you want to know when I'll be back.

I still have goody bags left, so if you stop by the booth and say "Jacob sent me" (make sure I can hear you, it's loud in there), then I'll give you a goody bag (if I still have them). My booth is F39.

Now, back to day two, so yes, a lot of people have stopped by and shown some interest, so that's very cool. I also got to see a panel about fantasy world creation, so that should help if I write any RPGs on the side (a side project I've had in mind for a while). Then when the show floor was closed, Wizard invited the Exhibitors and Artists to a bar for a free drink. Just a note, whenever anyone invites you to a bar for a free drink, it's probably a trap. Here's a note for show organizers, if you invite artists and exhibitors to a place after the show closes, make sure there's a place for them to sit and eat, because chances are good that they're going to be hungry. So yeah, we showed up about ten or twenty minutes after the start of the after hours bar thing, and there was nowhere to sit. The artist challenge was just starting, and it looked like a lot of fun, but I really needed food, so we left and looked at the other restaurants in the area, all of which had long waits, except one, a German restaurant (aka a polka bar). They asked us if we minded sitting by the stage, the open table, we said no, because we were hungry, so we were seated. Well, if you've ever been in a night club, imagine all the speakers in a night club, gathered together, and placed on your table right next to your ear, and then, instead of playing club music, polka is played. It was so loud, that we wrote out our order on the paper menu, circling the items we wanted. Thankfully, the waitress was nice and seemed to understand. Once we ate and left, we walked back to the hotel (where I am now) constantly checking to see if our ears were bleeding. Thankfully, they were not.

Chicago Comic Con Day Three
Gary
Day three has come to an end and the final day, day four is looming overhead. I was going to try and do another sketch comic to put up today, but I'm busy packing up my hotel room so I can check out tomorrow. The current plan is to have the last two Sharknado spoofs up on Monday and Tuesday, then have a comic about the main characters in rm -r (this comic) on Wednesday, and a general site usage comic up on Friday. Stick with the craziness. For those who stopped by the booth, thanks. It's been a blast meeting all of you, and that's really why I did the show. There's still time to stop by the booth (F39) and say "Jacob sent me" to get a free goody bag (while supplies last), or to pick up some free postcards and buttons, or to buy one of my limited print posters, which I probably won't offer at another Chicago Comic Con (I want my stock to change every year if I'm doing shows). The posters are only $5 each or all 5 for $18 (I might even throw in a free promo backpack and/or "Summer is Coming" print). If you weren't able to make the show and you want one of the prints, shoot me an email. Below are the prints I did for this show.

I'll also put up a donate button for those who want to support the comic but don't want to purchase something. I should be able to get that up next week, in the mean time, please catch up on some of the archives.
