A joyous celebration and a rant
Well, my sister is now officially married. It was a really fun wedding and I was quite honored to be a part of it. I'm sure there are images on the Internet somewhere of it. To me, this was a special occasion, an occasion all about my sister and her husband, and it made me think a bit about such occasions, about how family interacts, and about what I consider family. My definition of family may very well have more responsibility/duty to it than most peoples' definition, so I'll just ramble on about it for a little bit here.

To me, family is about being there for each other, no matter what. It doesn't matter if you're angry or think you've been slighted or even if you're having a hard time yourself. If a family member needs you, or wants you to be part of a special day with them, you do everything within your power to be there and help them. That's my definition of family, those around you for whom you'll be there for whenever they need it. Those who you'll help whenever they need help. Those to share special days with.

To me, a special day is a day in which one starts a new life, joins their life to another, or a life ends. On those days, family members should be there for each other, and understand that the day is not about them, but rather about the one whose life is changing for the first two, or most effected for the last one. All of this was taught to me as a child. It's ideals I hold dear. Ideals that my family taught to me. Now here I am older, sitting back and contemplating the teaching, and trying to figure out when the teachers of such a pivotal and important lesson forgot it themselves. I'm not sure what to say. I just wonder when it was forgotten. Well, that ends my rant. I will most likely say my piece about this to those who seem to have forgotten, and then drop it. One can only live one's own life, and how each individual wants to live their life is completely up to them.

All that craziness aside, it was really a blast. It was a great celebration. It was very nice to see family members I haven't seen in a long time, and to meet so much of the husband's family. They seem to be a lot of fun. I'm glad he and my sister found each other. I couldn't have found better matches for either of my sisters. Normally, I'm not one who's much for verbally expressing his emotions, but I really am quite happy for both of my sisters and am happy to have their significant others in the family. It brings me great joy to see each of them happy and in love.
